Sing-Along Sunday and Why Easter Matters

"Because He Lives" by Bill and Gloria Gaither (this version performed by David Crowder Band)

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

And then one day I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone!
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives!

Today was Easter, everyone.
In case you didn't notice.
One of two days that pretty much everyone with any sort of christian heritage is obligated to go to church. We wear pastels, paint eggs, and take pictures with our family.

To the worship leader, Easter is like the Superbowl of church services. You can pretty much assume that there will be more people in the seats; with that, there will undoubtedly be an inherent expectation to entertain newcomers. Some things that I hope we remembered this year:

  1. The Gospel is all that we have to hold onto- Christ's sinless life, unjust death, victorious resurrection to give to us His perfection.
  2. The Holy Spirit's power is all that can grow our churches- apart from Him, our best efforts are exercises in futility
  3. Because Christ has risen, we know that the debt has been paid- and more so, that the check cleared. There is no more fear.
  4. The Church is growing and God is moving, with or without us. Let's be humble and grateful that He allows us to come alongside every sunday.

Easter matters. Christ and His gospel matter more.
