"Good" Friday?

It is 12 a.m. on Saturday. So although it is not TECHNICALLY Good Friday any more, this blog is going to address today as Good Friday. Humor me.

You've asked the question, and so have I:
"Why is it called GOOD FRIDAY?"

As many of you know, Good Friday is the day that Christ was crucified. Not to be confused with the slightly-more-fitting-name Black Friday, which is the day that everything in Walmart is like 89% off and people stampede through the store for a television that will become obsolete in three years.

It begs the question, what is so GOOD about the day that Jesus was crucified?

  • Christ being crucified means that our price has been paid.
  • Christ being crucified means that in the cross the wrath of God was absorbed so that we could be seen as blameless before him.
  • Christ being crucified means that God loved us before we ever even considered loving him back. He knew that we would be a mess; He knew that we would mess up constantly, fall short, and rebel against Him. But He loved us even then. This gives us hope and trust in our maker.

I hope you guys enjoyed Good Friday. And even if you didn't, I hope this gives you a good Saturday to prepare your heart for Easter.

STUFF TO CHECK OUT:

Philipians 2:5-11
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
