"Come to Save Us"- All Sons & Daughters
Now, I'm not sure if Tennessee worship duo All Sons & Daughters INTENDED to make a theological statement about God's role in saving His people, but they certainly did in this song. Please listen to it and read along.
Verse 1 :
You have come to save us
You have come to save us
You have come to save us, Lord
You have come to save us
You have come to save us, Lord
You have made a way here
You have made the way clear
You have come to save us, Lord
You have come to save us, Lord
You have made the way clear
You have come to save us, Lord
You have come to save us, Lord
Chorus:
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
King of all the other kings on earth
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
King of all the other kings on earth
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
King of all the other kings on earth
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
Jesus, You’re the one who saves us
King of all the other kings on earth
Verse 2:
You are light and fire
You are our desire
You have come to save us, Lord
You are our desire
You have come to save us, Lord
You’re the hope among us
You’re the peace that binds us
You have come to save us, Lord
You have come to save us, Lord
You’re the peace that binds us
You have come to save us, Lord
You have come to save us, Lord
Bridge:
King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords
Light of the world, You shine
King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords
Light of the world, You shine
King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords
Light of the world, You shine
While nothing in the song leaps out as shocking (um, of course He saves us), there are very important concepts at play about the notion of God saving us, and not us pulling ourselves up from our bootstraps or even selecting Jesus out of a buffet line of potential options. This concept is radical, dangerous, and life changing. Here is why:
- If Jesus saves us, and we did not do it ourselves, it takes all of the moral pressure and weight off of our shoulders. I no longer have to adhere to a boot-camp religion where failure equals fire. This leads to ever increasing joy in knowing that you do not have to maintain an exhausting appearance of piety.
- If Jesus saves us, then there is no fear in sharing your faith. Often we fail to talk to people about Jesus in church settings and outside because we feel that if we mess up, that person's life and future is on us. When in actuality, God Himself is the one that saves, and therefore all we have to worry about is faithfully speaking the gospel.
- If Jesus saves us and we did nothing to earn it, then we cannot lose our salvation. If our one-way ticket is in fact given by Christ- that is, we can never do anything to pay for it, then we cannot by that same logic and what He says in John 10:28, we cannot do anything to lose that gift.
Enjoy this freedom! Walk in it this week.
I love the way you provide us with video, lyrics, and an explanation. It is quick, easy to read, and listen to.
